I’d like to share with you something that might give you hope if you suffer from nightmares due to a traumatic event in your life, (PTSD) sometimes known as nightmare disorder.
A close friend of mine came to me complaining of frightening dreams. Although she said she couldn’t remember the dreams she told me she would awaken in the middle of the night in a near panic. Upon further investigation I found that it was the anniversary of her fathers death a few days before. She also told me she had recurring nightmares around the time of her fathers death two years before. I knew the nightmares and the death of her father were linked, and I suspected it was a case of post traumatic stress disorder.
I proceeded to put her into hypnosis and gave her the suggestions she needed to erase the nightmares. I used a basic relaxation induction and because I have had previous experience with this type of problem, we got immediate results. The nightmares ceased, and she sleeps regularly now.
Solving the problem and helping my client in this particular case was one of the first successes I achieved early on in my hypnotherapy training. I firmly believe hypnosis is a viable and reliable coarse of action in cases like these. I also believe hypnosis to be one of the least understood of the therapies available to anyone who wants to make permanent lasting change in their lives.
